In The Nature of Things, Katherine Filice invites us to explore the delicate interplay between the natural world and the unseen forces that shape our existence. Rooted in a deep connection to nature, Filice’s work reveals an intricate dialogue between presence and absence, structure and fluidity, seen and unseen.

Through a meditative process of mark-making and layered compositions, her pieces evoke the interconnected systems of life—branches and roots, neural pathways and rivers, memories and echoes. Filice’s practice is informed by Shinrin-yoku (forest bathing), an immersive relationship with the landscape that allows her to not only observe but also participate in the rhythms of nature. Her drawings and paintings embody this dynamic stillness, where lines pulse like veins and compositions breathe with organic movement. The work speaks to the persistence of nature, the fragility of memory, and the ways in which we are both shaped by and shapers of our environment.

At its core, The Nature of Things is an invitation to pause and reflect. It asks us to consider how the natural world mirrors our own internal landscapes—how roots connect beneath the surface, how energy transfers through unseen networks, how time and memory leave their marks like wind through the trees. Through this body of work, Filice reminds us that we are not separate from nature but deeply entangled within its patterns, its mysteries, and its quiet truths.
